First off, I’m not a Manny hater. I don’t personally “appreciate” his style of fighting but I’m not a hater. I admit I do have a bias towards certain types of fighters. In this case, I like total/complete fighters. Guys like Floyd and Sweet Pea are classic examples. People say Manny has improved a lot and is no longer one dimensional but I don’t see it. No one has mentioned the possibility of a “fix” with Manny and Clottey which is surprising but not really. Don’t be offended as it’s not outrageous to think boxing is subject to such a thing. Yes Clottey is defensive minded, but come on!! Your own website headlined, “Paq pitches shut out against “timid” Clottey.” Since when is Clottey a timid fighter??? He didn’t fight back at all and not b/c Manny was SO fast. I’m not telling you how to respond but please I want to hear your thoughts. By far it was Clottey’s biggest payday and he’s a Top Rank fighter. This was a keep busy fight for Manny without him being seriously hurt. I don’t think Manny is faster than Zab and Clottey gave Zab the business and made him quit! (actually Zab claimed he couldn’t see but we all know the deal). Clottey also put it on Margarito (bigger, stronger and punches harder than Manny) before he broke his hands. I just don’t buy all this Manny greatness. On another note, Bread you stated in a previous mailbag, “until he (Manny) fails a drug test or something else of substance comes up, leave him alone.” Manny can’t fail a drug test for PEDs if he won’t take a RANDOM drug test for PEDs. Just like Manny haters can’t falsely accuse him or mention rumors, Floyd can’t be knocked for insisting on random drug testing just because no one has ever asked for it! EVERYONE knows and boxing insiders such as yourself know better than the general public about the behind closed door details of boxing. What Floyd is asking for is not out of the question one bit! Not accusing Manny of anything, but there are KNOWN cheaters in boxing. Forget the comments of Floyd Sr. To ensure everyone is on a level playing field just take the test. Plus, if you’re Manny and you’re that upset about it, take it out on Floyd in the ring! I just can’t grasp why Manny would turn down a $40M fight because of random drug test. BT by far is THE BEST BOXING SITE. Keep up the good work and I hope this makes the bag!!

Bread’s Response: 1st off I want to say thank you for defending our country and taking the time to write in to me. Now as you know whenever someone writes in to me , I provide logic and facts. Why would Clottey throw that fight when if he upset Pacquio he could have made 3 times the 1.25 mill he made for Saturday night.in a rematch Why , O why? Also Clottey just killed his marquee value. He is not Mexican he is African. He has no large fan base. Clottey is a step away from being an ESPN fighter after that. Did you hear how the announcers blasted him? Also did you notice the sucker punch straight right hand and vicious left uppercut Clottey was slamming into Manny’s face. I did. He didn’t throw that fight Sir, he got his ass whipped by an all time great fighter. Clottey thought Pacquio would eventually slow down and when he didn’t he became discouraged. That’s all there was to it. As far as the drug testing I agree Manny could just take the test and shut everybody up. But I have a question I would love for Floyd’s fans to answer for me. I promise I will post the best responses. Why would Floyd ask Manny to take these special test he never asked anyone else to take, after being a pro for 14 years, during a time where he is basically broke , so broke where he has IRS liens, cars repossessed, homes repossessed and his bank accounts all but cleared out, knowing Manny can say NO and cost him $80 mill. I say 80 because they will probably fight a rematch. So please guys answer me that question. Because if I was broke I wouldn’t ask a guy to do something he can just screw me around on especially when I just fought a guy moving up from 135, who was a very good puncher at lower weights but went to 135 and KOD two guys who had never been KOD before, put on 10 lbs of artificial weight, drank his own piss and ate raw quail eggs and I didn’t ask him to take anything but the standard NSAC test. Let me add two things I am all for blood testing in boxing and if Manny refused to take a blood test that was the standard of the Commission he was fighting in I will say he is dirty point blank. Secondly, Floyd didn’t ask Marquez to take the test because he KNEW Marquez could not beat him. Better yet answer me this while your at it, how come Floyd didn’t feel the need to demand a blood test from Ricky Hatton when he leg pressed over 500lbs on the 24/7 show. Isn’t that extreme for such a little man?
I got tired of the whole PED thing the last few months but you wrote in your monday mailbag “Next time somebody writes in about Manny being on steroids come at me with facts please” well PACMAN has never tested positive for any banned drug that’s true but during the PAC/DIAZ training camp hired a man named TREVOR GRAHAM, a Jamaican strength coach who worked with MARION JONES,TIM MONGOMERY and other known dopeheads at the request of manny’s current sc coach ALEX ARIZA and FREDDIE ROACH was quoted saying “he owes pacman’s success to big trev”. You know big trev, the same guy that was convicted in federal court for lying to a federal agent about the BALCO case and banned for life by UDADA coaching any Olympic athlete has been credited to the success P4P favorite manny pacquiao and if that’s not proof enough what about bob arum who is notorious for turning a blind eye to cheating fighters such as RESTO,MARGARITO and CHAVEZ JR. Yes, there is no dirty needle to tie MP to the crime but this should make anyone stand up and take notice.
Bread’s Response: Great email and that is a fact. Manny and Freddie have some answering to do about that. I agree, that is not a good look. Not at all. I have done some research on Graham and what I found is that he has worked with and helped 100’s of athletes. A small percentage of them came up dirty. I will admit it’s not a good look but its not like Graham has came out and said he gave Manny something. In my research I also found that Graham happens to be an excellent coach and he is unequalled in teaching speed and explosion and that was exactly what they needed for Manny. Graham gave Ariza and Manny helpful explosion drills to make Manny better and he only worked with him for a very short period. Now I have to ask, Daryl Hudson the guy who was Mosley’s strength trainer was hired by Chris Arreola and Winky Wright AFTER the Shane debacle. Andre Ward bought vitamins from Balco. Are these guys steroid users? I am sure Graham has trained some clean athletes. I am sure Hudson has trained some clean fighters. And I am sure Balco sold some legal vitamins not just PED’s. We need more than that to bury Manny. Graham gets called in as a consultant all the time because despite him being a cheat he is knowledgable.
Hey, I read your mailbag and yes you made some very good points. The point about him filling out his body so nicely due to him no longer having to cut weight is one that I have made myself. I’d like to see what people come back with. Again, I am giving him the benefit of the doubt that he is that special and the reason for his increase in punch output, etc has been his increased energy level due to not having to cut as much weight and training harder than ever. I also feel that he has made a conscious effort to throw more punches as he has moved up in weight and faced bigger guys in order to deter them from letting their hands go and possibly hurting him. I think a guy like Calzaghe has a lot in common with Pacquiao. They are both left handed, both very quick, volume punchers with amazing stamina and tons of heart. I don’t know if you ever drew that comparison in your head.
Bread’s Response: Yes I have. Calzaghe and Manny are very similar. Manny punches harder and goes to the body more but there are equally effective.and equally special. Thanx
Whaddup Breadman? Manny Pacquiao (“Pacman”) did what he was supposed to do. Clottey simply could not get into a rhythm with his counterpunching because Pacman kept him on the defensive all night. Bread, Pacman did a nice job with his foot movement, and his straight left hand to Clottey’s belly (smart moves). I’ve always believed Clottey has a mental block in fights. Meaning, mentally, Clottey seems to shut down at some point in fights for unknown reason(s). Sometimes, I think Clottey is mentally afraid of becoming a star – his mind set is very confusing. As for a Pacman vs. Mayweather fight – IF Mayweather wins – Pacman will have no choice but to take the Olympic style testing because the public may start to seriously criticize Pacman for not taking the test; Pacman’s excuses for not taking the test are simply UNACCEPTABLE. If I were Mayweather, especially after hearing Pacman’s unacceptable excuses, I would not change my position with the testing issue, PERIOD. As for Mr. Kellerman, unless I misunderstood him, I believe he mentioned Mayweather came up with the testing issue because he was afraid of Pacman – I hope Kellerman does not mean this because Mayweather is not afraid of Pacman; I believe Mayweather’s concern is to make sure all fighters enter the ring as equally as possible for an epic, historical fight. Bread, I simply do not see why Pacman will not take the Olympic style testing because it is completely fair to both fighters, fair to the public and it diminishes (if not eliminates) any/all excuses and/or allegations in the event there is a Pacman vs. Mayweather fight. We (the public) should find Pacman’s excuses for not taking a complete test VERY questionable and avoid blind, emotional haste to witness a possible all time great fight when there are unresolved concerns out there regarding the Pacman camp. I’ve always believed professional fighters should take Olympic style testing. Breadman, regardless of Mayweather’s timing/reasons, I am glad someone is demanding Olympic style testing. Pacman is a wonderful, wonderful fighter, and I hope he goes ahead and takes the test in preparation for one of the greatest fights in boxing history. Mr. Pacman (you too Freddie), please settle the public’s growing/future concerns and agree to a RANDOM test. Breadman, in other words . . . PACMAN TAKE THE TEST AND STOP BEING A PEST!!!!. Sorry for the long email, but I am so tired of folks blaming Mayweather for trying to do the fair thing (regardless of his intentions). Thanks Breadman. E-Man
Bread’s Response: Good comment E-Man. I’m just trying to get you guys to understand a few things. Just because Manny does not want to take blood test closer to the fight does not mean he is guilty of using PED’s. Let’s assume Manny is clean for arguments sake. Now assuming he is clean why would he do something to hinder his performance just to prove a point. I hope you are feeling where I am coming from. Some people are just stubborn like that. I have an analogy. What if a fighter said my opponent comes in too heavy the day of fights. We are having the weigh in the afternoon of the fight. The opposing fighter said NO, the rule is the weigh in is the day before so that’s what I’m going to do. If he refuses to fight it doesn’t mean he’s scared or hiding something, it just means he is not willing to do something to hinder himself “just because the other guy said so”. I hope you guys understand this. Fighters like their advantages that’s why they are called advantages. Floyd likes to fight in Vegas. Why because he has bad hands and he can use that numbing agent which is legal in Vegas to numb his hands, so it doesn’t hinder him in a fight. Can you imagine him hurting his hand against Manny the way he did against Carlos Hernandez. Just trying to let you guys see the WHOLE picture.
I had to send you this email, because after that orgasm you have been having about pacquiaos fight, but your true colors are coming out you are picking against Mayweather against Mosley, you feel more and more confident about putting your money on Pacquiao against Mayweather. I mean anyone that has read your articles already knows that you are rooting for Mayweather to lose you do it so much, but you try to give him credit the instant you criticize him. The two things that are even more clear and should be called out tot all of you “I want Mayweather to lose” fan club members Mayweather has made many good and even great fighters look bad before I mean he does almost everytime he fights, but some of you guys ignore him, because you do not like him personally. You are probably one of these dudes who thinks Pacquiao was fighter of the decade right? I mean after losing to Morales, and two questionable wins over Marquez, he has been bettere over the past ten years than Mayweather who has been dominating all comers whie also moving up in weight, not just te past 2 years. And lastly if Pacquiao is that great he should just take the test, period, bottom line, end of discussion, take it get in there beat the brakes off of Mayweather and shut all of us up, why doesnt he do that? All of you cheerleaders should stop being his lawyer in the press and become real journalist and ask the question why he won’t take the test , and if you are a true journalist why dont you mention Trevor Ariza who was banned from all olympic competition, because he was providing illegal enhancements to track athletes and he has been praised by Pacquiaos camp, why don’t you talk about any of that in “The Daily Bread” you have swept that under the rug you wont even mention it, and it is a story because he has worked in Pacquiaos camp, yet you and others who have become cheerleaders have stop being unbiased journalsts and you want to talk about “Big Willie” and how he took Mayweathers money, yet you don’t want to talk about your hero being associated with a steroid provider, you can find out and talk about Mayweathers finances, but you can’t talk about a fact that Pacquaiao being associated with a cheater, if that is not grand hypocrisy I don’t know what is. Do your job stop being a chearleader.Last you would never bring up a discussion on Trevor Ariza or “Big Trev” as the Pacquiao camp calls him because that would expose thing that you cheerleaders don’t want to be exposed.
Bread’s Response: The bad guys name is Trevor Graham. Alex Ariza is Pacquio’s strength and conditioning coach. Now that we got the names correct, I think I answered your question in the email above. I have no ulterior motives so therefore when you guys bring up good points I will post them so we can discuss them. I don’t shy away from the tuffies, lets have it! I work with boxingtalk not for Manny Pacquiao.
You say you come with facts not opinions. But to say a fighter take punches on the chin better with experience is completely false. It has been scientifically proven, that each punch landed to ones head make them more susceptible to be knocked unconcussion and having brain injuries down the line. A person doesn’t grow a better chin unless we are talking about a 5 year old boy becoming a 20 year old man. You also made mention of Paul Williams work rate, and It is true. The difference is William shows fatigue and doean’t fight the last 6 like the first 12. He slows down and gets hit more. Now in this case I wouldn’t say Mannys workrate proves he is on steriods, because the fight was a mismatched sparring session. And he didn’t have to avoid to many punches.
Bread’s Response: Ok my friend you went to the well too many times. Any fighter will tell you that the more you spar and more experience you gain the better you will handle punishment. I’m not saying over the course of a long career punishment won’t break you down because it will. But every world class fighter or even gym rats like myself will tell you, the first day you spar the punches bother you much more than when you are a seasoned veteran and you learn different subtleties on taking shots. If you don’t believe me email some trainers and ask them this question exactly how I phrased. Do you take a punch better when you are just starting out as a novice or as an experienced veteran when you have learned your craft.?Manny was knocked out in 96 with a head shot at 16 years old and again with a body shot in 99 at 20 years old. I only deal in facts. I bet the Mayweather’s will even tell you what I say is true.
That the haters have forgotten about being a boxing fan first. I appreciate the game of boxing. Sure I have my favorites but I love the sport itself. In terms of Manny Cheating. People seem to forget that he said that he is willing to give blood right after the fight. Correct me if I’m wrong but if you have anything in your system, it wouldn’t disappear after 12 rounds or a knockout. He has never failed any test at all and who is Mayweather to change to rules that have been in place.Remember Innocent till proven Guilty. People are ready to convict Manny because of what the Mayweathers say? We are seeing something special. History is in front of us. Stop all the hate and appreciate what you are witnessing. Keep up the Good work. Also on a side note. 50 cent once said that Mayweather isn’t undefeated anymore because they fought. Do you have any insight on their fight?
Bread’s Response:The definition of HATER. Someone who maliciously discredits one without justification or substance. These attacks are usually fueled by jealousy. I have some wonderful analogies. What if you see a chubby average looking guy out to dinner with a girl who is a flat out dime. If you start whispering” Oh shit dude must have money it’s no way he can pull that girl without money”, and if you don’t anything about these people. You didn’t see what car he pulled up in and more importantly you don’t know what kind of girl she is , you are a HATER. For all you know that guy could be packing lol. He also could have some serious game. The girl may not like playboy type guys because she could have had bad experiences and she now wants someone more regular. That’s why you can’t go around spitting out falsities with no substance. Ok I have another. What if you work a regular job making about 40 grand a year. Everybody makes about the same salary. You drive a BMW 745 and everybody else drives basic Hondas and Toyotas. They say oh man he must be doing something illegal on the side. Without knowing any of your personal business. For all they know you can live with your moms and pay no bills. Or you could have case money. I hope you people feel me. It’s so uncool to just tear someone down just because they can do something that is not common. As far as 50 cents I don’t know anything about a fight with he and Mayweather. I’m glad you appreciate this wonderful fighter, he is truly special and so is Floyd for that matter. read more
