SI.com reported earlier this week that IBO and Ring Magazine light welterweight champion Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao tested negative for performance-enhancing substances both before and after he captured the WBO welterweight title from Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand Garden Arena last month.
In a brutal exhibition of power and …
Bernard Hopkins, who just happens to be a pugilistic partner in Golden Boy Promotions, caused quite the stir late last week when he told Bill Emes of Boxingscene.com,” Mayweather will fight Shane Mosley before he fights Pacquiao. Pacqiuao is probably going to fight the Jewish kid at 154 and Shane Mosley and Floyd Mayweather are going to fight. And then the winner will fight Pacquiao for all the marbles- by late next year. All of that is going to happen. I think so. That’s my prediction.”
Hopkins later added, that while Golden Boy, CEO, Richard Schaefer, has the best of intentions when it comes to negotiating a bout between Pacquiao and Mayweather, that,”( Bob) Arum doesn’t want to do a deal.”
Who knew ’ the Executioner’ was also a soothsayer? But perhaps he has some inside info, ya’ never know. Hopkins has never been one to pull punches or hold his tongue. But Arum, who promotes ’the Pac Man’ claimed to have not heard these comments as of Monday afternoon.
“When did he say that?” asked Arum, who added,”I mean, we’re prepared to fight Floyd Mayweather but the fight may have to happen on March 13Th, rather than May 1st. We’ll know that tomorrow. If Mayweather doesn’t want to fight Pacquiao, fine, then maybe Yuri Foreman will be a good opponent.”
Pacquiao-Foreman on pay-per-view? Oy vey! Hey, the good news is that at least Foreman wont be on the undercard, right? But the veteran promoter insists that consummating a Mayweather fight is his top priority.”That’s the fight I want to get done, the one I want to do. But if that is not possible for at least the first half of the year, I don’t know why Mayweather would object to a March 13Th date. Richard Schaefer is taking that position.”
Philippine boxing champion Manny Pacquiao has submitted his candidacy for the 2010 elections to congress.
He claimed his seventh world boxing title in seven different weight classes after defeating Miguel Cotto last month to win the WBO’s welterweight crown.
This will be his second attempt to gain political office. He was …
